The Ministry of Public Infrastructure Renewal (PIR), in consultation with affected municipalities, delineated the built boundary which is a limit of the developed urban area as of June 16, 2006 defined by the Minister in according with Policy 2.2.3.5 of the Growth Plan, 2006. Built-up Area includes all land within the built boundary.
*NOTE* This is a modified version of the original delivery from the Province of Ontario. This version was clipped back to the extents of the Urban Area Boundary as established by the Special Policy Branch of the Planning Department within the Regional Municipality of Durham. Clipping of this dataset occurred because of the policy that the built boundary can not be found outside of the urban area boundary.
The built boundary will be used to monitor the intensification targets stipulated in Policy 2.2.3 of the Growth Plan.

GIS data for the limits of the developed urban area in the Greater Golden Horseshoe area.
The built boundary identifies built-up urban areas across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. It is a fixed line that reflects what was built and on the ground when the Growth Plan came into effect in June 2006. The boundaries are an important implementation and monitoring tool for the Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe. The built boundary will allow the province and others to measure intensification and redevelopment within the built-up area, and also allow us to monitor suburban development outside the built-up area. The built boundary was released in its final form on April 2, 2008, along with the methodology used to create it. ROP Consolidation December 13, 2024.
